This fabulous quilt pattern is the Jelly Girl Quilt pattern by Joanna Figueroa, and published by Fig Tree & Co. The moment Bev saw this pattern she knew she had to make the quilt.

Earlier this week, Tuesday to be exact, I came home from work to find the "Swirl blocks" Bev had sewn together covering the carpet in the center of the living room. (see picture above of loose blocks). Of course, Bev was in the process of moving the different colored blocks around untill she had them where she thought they looked the best. She asked my opinion, but I could see this was a job for someone with more experience than me.

Once Bev had the blocks arranged how she wanted them, she picked up a row of blocks, carefully stacking them in the right order, and took them to her sewing room to sew them together. (see picture of loose rows and alternating rows sewn together). The close up picture above shows that the blocks were sewn together with light colored fabric triangles between them to form solid rows for the quilt pattern.

Of course this wasn't done in one evening. When I first started writing this blog post on Tuesday night, this was as far as Bev had progressed. She works full time every day, and only has so much time for her quilting passion. I was going to publish this post on Wednesday with the quilt top half finished, but due to technical difficulties with the website, I couldn't publish a blog post.

So by Thursday morning the quilt was still on the floor, but all the blocks in each row were sewn together, and Bev had a pin with a letter on it attached to each row, so that she knew in which order to sew the rows together to complete the quilt top. She was able to gather all the rows off the carpet at this point, and the living room was freed up.

Yesterday evening, I received word from the website techies that the blog problem had been fixed, and everything was working again. So I started to finish finishing this blog post. I asked Bev how the Jelly girl Quilt was coming and she said "Oh, the top is finished". So I had her get it for me and I spread it out on the living room floor again and took a picture of the finished top. (Above picture with borders)

So this blog post ended up covering the whole story of making a quilt top. Bev is now looking for the right fabric for the back of the quilt, and will finish quilting it soon after.

This Jelly Girl Quilt will be a beautiful quilt when it is finished.
